Students will receive riding or driving instruction TWO TIMES PER DAY (weather permitting)! We only accept a limited number of students; therefore riding lessons will be in small groups or pairs.
Your child will get to participate in many different riding activities including english riding, western riding, bareback, vaulting, side-saddle, and trail riding. While english riding, campers will steer their horses over ground poles which will prepare them for jumping (those advanced enough can learn to jump or continue to do so) as well as learn how to properly tack/untack their horse. Western riding will consist of learning how to ride with one hand (and two!) and campers will practice how to rope off horseback, ride a barrel pattern, pole bending, and how to do an obstacle course from horseback too. Vaulters perform simple gymnastic maneuvers on horseback which are executed by holding the handles of the surcingle. Vaulting is a great confidence builder and practice begins on the vaulting barrel where campers learn basic seat, mount and dismount, and several stunts. More advanced moves are the kneel, stand, the flag, arabesque, the prince and doubles. Campers have even invented their own moves. Vaulting is a safe and fun horsemanship challenge. Campers will get to explore our trails on horseback and will get to ride through woods and fields.
Driving lessons are offered in our riding ring, in our OPEN fields, and yes, our trails! Your child will learn how to drive very well-trained miniature horses that pull carts by learning how to steer the horse/cart with use of the reins and your voice.
Campers WILL NOT ride endlessly in circles around the ring! Campers will enjoy playing games on horseback, learning how to steer their horses while performing different riding patterns and figures, and horseback scavenger hunts in the trails!
Aside from the riding activities, campers will learn how to properly take care of their horses including grooming, tacking/untacking, leading, what they eat, bathing, and MORE! Campers will learn how to properly and safely handle their horses on the ground and in the saddle. There will be contests held with ribbons given for horse beauty contests and more! Campers will also partake in other farm activities such as taking care of the other farm animals (pigs, mini horses, chickens, goats, bunnies...), swimming, and other games such as treasure hunts!
We have professional, well-qualified instructors ready to give your child a safe, unique and memorable equestrian learning experience! Our camp director has many years' experience with running a horseback riding summer camp and your child's safety is our NUMBER ONE priority.
A strong foundation is essential for many things in life,
Our horse riding camps will give the solid foundation it takes to be a skilled, safe rider,
while building a relationship of trust and respect with the horse.
The attributes your child will learn at summer horse camp will apply to all aspects of their lives.
